Moving schools

ITS Tutorial School provides a variety of services for people relocating to Hong Kong.  These include:

Moving Schools

For many parents, moving to a new county with children can be a very worrying factor; a lot of factors are involved when moving with children.  Widely speaking finding a suitable school for a child is one of the most important steps in securing a new life for a family.

The anticipation of change and the early stages in a new school are challenging for everyone. In most circumstances, the children who find change most difficult are those whose parents do. It is vitally important that parents make every attempt to recognise and convey the opportunities inherent in change and to address any problems as a family before moving or deciding on a new school.

For whatever reason exists that may cause a change in a child’s school life, parents hold the answers to their questions and should therefore share as much about the circumstances as children want to know and are able to absorb, using their questions as a guide. Parents should be available to speak with their children and to answer all their questions.

The key to a successful transition for both child and family is one of ‘Communication’.  Without ‘Communication’ the bond is lost and children experience the sadness and stress of the transition on their own. Parents need to ensure that a relaxed, calm family life exists at home and that children are too involved in finding a new school.

It is good for children to be part of the school search; school tours are an essential part of finding a new school and children should be actively part of these tours.   Children love to be engaged in new issues and making them part of the decision-making process will help them understand more about the move as a family.

A new life and a new school can generate a lot of excitement. Changing schools can be a stressful experience for children. School is in many ways is like their second home and very often the center of their social life, it’s important for parents to help their children adapt as quickly as possible.

In a word, there are many things that need to be considered when finding a new school and many issues which can be used as indicators of a good school. But the very best indicator to identify a school is a parent’s intuition and common sense.
